My Climb at Commonwealth Golf Club

I am extremely fortunate to call CGC my home club in Australia.  Having joined late last year a few months after arriving down under, I've played the course close to forty times and have become intimately familiar with the strategic challenges each hole presents.  In those ~40 rounds, I've shot both 65 (-8) and have been lucky to walk off the course having salvaged 82 (+9).  There is no hiding from the wind out there and when it starts blowing, CGC's lightening fast greens really bare their teeth.  Miss in the wrong spot and you have next to no chance to get up and down.  I remember signing for a 78 my first time out (on a relatively benign day) having missed in nearly every bad spot imaginable (left bunker on the fourth, left on six, right on nine, etc.) and learning a very valuable lesson about how the challenge of Australian golf is not in the length of a course or volume of water hazards, but in the way greens tilt and how the firmness of the course on any given day dictates the shots required.
